Te Huia hand-stitch upcycled blanket cushions to help fundraise student scholarships for their rangatahi.
Te Huia is a fundraising group formed by Taumaranui Kuia, it started as an effort to raise funds so the young boys of their Iwi coul attend the 'In Zone Educational Program' in Auckland. Now its has evolved into a platform for creating job opportunities for Taumaranui locals and a scholarship fundraiser to assist students with accomodation and school fees when attending schools outside their district.
Each cushion is a completely unique hand-made wonder! Laboriously hand cut and pieced together from upcycled blankets and discarded fabrics, they are then finished in detail with a simple and careful blanket stitch.
